StenErik was saavy enough to have his camera on him a few weeks back and caught this wonderful sight in the city of Dallas. By his attestation, this Baylor grad was marketing his talent to potential employers who might be passing by his post. To anyone interested in following up, he had a stack of resume’s at his feet.
I have to give this unknown man credit for his superbly innovative idea. I’m not sure whether it will leave a favorable or unfavorable impression upon passing employers, but it definitely got their attention.
Perhaps he’ll include this photo on his resume in the future…

Ever heard of RoadRunner, Blue Gene, or petaflop? If not, you’re out of touch with the latest in technology. Sure, everyone is making a fuss about the new touchscreen Palm phone, the lastest Macbook, or the continual battle between Mac and PC…but they have missed the real industry giant that is driving change in the computer industry. Call me an idealist, but I find the things happening through one of the world’s veteran computer companies far more exciting that the latest gadget to hit the market.
IBM has dominated the computer market for as long as I can remember, and the new millenium has only seen an endless run of the same record. Their latest release (that I can find) is the Road Runner machine, doubling the speed of its predecessor and essentially doing the combined work of 100,000 laptops.
What do you do with all that computing power? According to IBM’s projects of the past, you map complex organic systems, calculate nuclear reactions, and search for the cure for HIV.
Is it safe to say that IBM is enabling us to change the course of human history??? It’s a hard question to answer, but I bet they have more influence that Windows 7, Second Life, or the newest Mac device, don’t you think?

“Stocks tumble”
“Dow falls to record low”
“Unemployment at a 3 year high”
The news seems to have a new angle on the same old economic message every day…I wonder sometimes, do they enjoy pushing people toward depression? Is it really necessary to throw the statistical “alarm” out there day after day?
Better yet, what should our views regarding the economy really be? Seriously…what should the stock markets really be telling us? I grow more and more bitter everyday, but not toward the president, or the mortgage lenders. I grow bitter toward the entire “publicly-owned” company philosophy. Sure, the stock market has made a lot of people rich, but isn’t there a greater business pursuit than improving the profits of investors? Shouldn’t our minds and focus be on the companies that make a consistent profit, but spend their money and their focus on improving the employees they have, rather than on companies who are more likely to cut employee benefits to show greater and greater profits.
I just grow tired of the stock market system…and wonder if there is a better way to channel our business abilities.

It is quite an extraordinary parallel to me to view the presidential news after the election. Outside of the hundreds of African’s Americans who have been inspired by this historic occasion, the biggest news now centers around the appointment of Barak Obama’s new staff.
The news is reminiscent to me of the New Testament occasion where Jesus’ disciples began arguing over who would be the greatest in His kingdom. Jesus uses this setting to make His model of leadership clear by washing his student’s feet in the role of the lowest servant in the home. The message: “leaders are servants.” Read the rest of this entry »
